The SDSU football game is a winning bet for the Casino de Grand-Sault

LARCHWOOD, IA (KELO) – South Dakota State University’s deep run in the college football playoffs is generating a lot of interest among the local sports betting crowd. The Jackrabbits will face Montana State in the FCS semifinals on Saturday, with the winner advancing to the national title game in Frisco, Texas. The game should result in a big handful for sports betting at Grand Falls Casino.

The Betfred Sportsbook says SDSU’s win over Villanova last week didn’t elicit much betting action at the casino. But Saturday’s game, with so much at stake for both teams, should bring a lot more bets.

Sports bettors at Grand Falls Casino are rating SDSU’s chances of defeating Montana State in Saturday’s FCS semifinal.

“I’m going to place a bet tomorrow on our house, SDSU Jackrabbits and hope they get a big win. Equal teams and we just hope for the best, you know,” said Justin Lickfelt of Aberdeen.

The Betfred Sportsbook expects SDSU play to generate 10% of Saturday’s total handle, an amount that could reach thousands of dollars.

“Today we already have bets coming and hopefully by tomorrow at 10am we will have more action,” said Joee Ektnitphong, Head of Sports Betting at Betfred Sports.

It’s always a busy time of year for sports betting with the college bowling season kicking off and the NFL season still going strong. So betting on the SDSU will only sweeten the pot.

“It’s a hometown for SDSU. So people really love them and they love coming to cheer them on. Even basketball games for Jackrabbits, people come to watch and place a bet,” Ektnitphong said.

Sports betting manager Joee Ektnitphong’s ties to the Jackrabbits go beyond the professional. It’s also personal. His son graduated from SDSU on Friday with a master’s degree.

“He’s been there for almost 5 years now. I’m very happy and Go Jacks,” Ektnitphong said.

The Betfred Sportsbook opens at 8am on Saturdays. They expect queues of 40 people at 11 a.m. just before the start of the first round of matches.

SDSU-Montana State game starts at 1 p.m.

If SDSU wins and advances to the title game, fans can reserve a spot on KELOLAND Media Group’s VIP FANFare in Frisco.
